autumns symphonies – a pas de deux of ancient lovers (movement ii)

Parole de Les Coeurs Tendres:

A  Pas de Deux of Ancient Lovers

(to my Beloved emBeth)

ii

“Let her kiss me with the kisses of her mouth

for the wisdom upon her lips

is more delightful than wine

deeper than the joy

at the bottom of a sacred chalice.

Veheyah. Amen. Veheyah.”

–Canticles (transliteration by Broeder Emmanuel, OSB)

 pasdedeux3

Y en a qui ont le cœur si tender

there are only but two with harts so tender

Qu’y reposent les mésanges

these are those who walk with their breasts exposed

Y en qui ont le cœur trop tender

these are those whose hart is always tender

Moitié hommes et moitié anges

whose harts are both carnal and divine

Y en a qui ont le cœur si vaste

there are only but two with vaster hart

Qu’ils sont toujours en voyage

pilgrims on a pilgrimage without end

Y en a qui ont le cœur trop vaste

there are only but two with vaster hart

Pour se priver de mirages

who danse upon the desert mirages

Ces pleins ont de fleurs dans les yeux

the many have eyes cloudy with flowers

Les yeux à fleur de peur

those eyes are full of stormy clouds of fear

De peur de manquer l’heure

fear they are lacking the hours to find

que tous les chemins trouvent les nouvelles terminaisons à Paris

that all paths find old beginnings in bethlehem
